1. Zermatt<\/h3>\n

One of the highest mountain villages situated in the Mattertal valley can boast 2133 m of a vertical slope \u2013 the longest one in Switzerland, as well as proximity to Dufour Peak \u2013 the highest peak in Switzerland. The proud silhouette of another alpine four thousander Matterhorn rises above the village and can be seen from almost any point of the 350 kilometer long piste connecting two countries and three mountain ski resorts. 2. Saint-Moritz<\/h3>\n

Crowned as one of the oldest and most fashionable winter resorts in the world, Saint-Moritz is for a good reason hold on respect by winter activities fans. It was Saint-Moritz that twice had the privilege to host the Winter Olympic Games \u2013 in 1928 and 1948, with its ski slopes still being an arena of the world-class competitions not only in mountain skiing, but in bobsleigh, skeleton, and sledding as well. Unlike other major resorts, most of the Saint-Moritz pistes are natural and form again every season. A well developed infrastructure and long slopes of various difficulty, more than two dozens of chairlifts, and arenas for numerous other winter sports every year attract visitors from all over the world.<\/p>\n

3. Saas-Fee<\/h3>\n

Due to proximity of this more than 700 years old high mountain town to Fee glacier, lying between Dom and Allalinhorn mountain ridges, one has an excellent opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities here all year round. In winter, these include 1800 m of a vertical slope, 150 km of ski runs, with the majority of them being equipped to suit beginners and intermediate skiers, which makes Saas-Fee an attractive place for families with children. Despite the deserved reputation of the easy slopes resort, the village also has something to surprise experienced skiers with, since it offers 23 km of the black diamond level ski pistes. And in the all-year-round winter sports park, snowboarders of any skill level will find something to keep themselves busy.<\/p>\n

4. Crans-Montana<\/h3>\n

Being usually crowded at weekends, Crans-Montana resort can easily accommodate all the inflow of guests, leisurely skiing along wide and convenient runs. 140 km long mountain ski trails include 70 km of pistes suitable for intermediate skiers and 55 km of beginners\u2019 level slopes. 27 chairlifts serve the slopes and climbs of this village, situated just in two hours\u2019 drive from Geneva and 1.5 hours from Lausanne. In Crans-Montana that lies on the southern slopes of the Bernese Alps special attention is paid to the snow cover quality; therefore, more than a third part of the trails are equipped with snow cannons. Every year, major snowboarding and skiing tournaments take place here.<\/p>\n

5. Verbier<\/h3>\n

Experienced skiers shouldn\u2019t hesitate to take note of Verbier. This resort is the best place for fans of such kind of mountain tourism, as backcountry. Being situated in southern Switzerland on a natural terrain, Verbier is a part the Four Valleys ski area, which also includes Thyon, Nendaz and Veysonnaz. This territory is covered by more than 410 km long trails with 93 chairlifts operating on a single ski-pass basis. Every year, Verbier hosts one of a freestyle championship round \u2013 Verbier Xtreme.<\/p>\n

6. Gstaad<\/h3>\n

Being one of the most prestigious mountain ski resorts, Gstaad will delight winter sports fans with 220 km long pistes and winter parks located at an elevation of 3000 m above sea. Due to being situated close to the glacier it offers full-fledged skiing opportunities on the well-equipped pistes of various difficulty levels from late October to early May. Fifty seven chairlifts serve 128 km of slopes for beginners, 60 km of trails for intermediate level skiers and 32 km of advanced pistes, challenging the experienced sports fans. Some of the runs are illuminated and suitable for night skiing; many of them are equipped with snow cannons.<\/p>\n
